The story of the Goat Tower at Fairview

A Cape Winelands Icon

Rising above the Goatshed restaurant in Paarl stands the Goat Tower, a charming landmark adored by both children and adults. Since 1981, this tower has been the cozy home of their beloved furry mascots.

The tale of the Goat Tower is quite special. In the early ’80s, Charles embarked on a trip to Portugal. During one of his producer visits, he spotted an original goat tower and felt completely inspired. A few months later, the now-iconic Goat Tower was built in Paarl. Shortly after its construction, Charles’s young son Jason accidentally left the paddock gate open, and the goats happily roamed among the vineyards. Displaying rare discernment, they selected some of the ripest berries from the vines. Their adventures inspired the Goats Do Roam wine range. The rest is history, and it’s no surprise that these cheese makers, joy bringers, and furry friends have been chosen as cherished mascots.

Every September, a special time occurs on the farm in Paarl when the nanny goats welcome their kids into the world. Occasionally, these adorable newcomers are brought up to the Goat Tower so visitors can welcome them too!
